The University of Cross River State (UNICROSS) Alumni Association has announced the beneficiaries of its “People’s First Scholarship Scheme”, launched two months ago for second-year students across all departments in the university. This announcement was made in a letter signed by Dr. Inyali Peter, the President of the UNICROSS Alumni Association and a member of the university’s Governing Council.
According to the letter, “all the necessary arrangements have been made to announce the beneficiaries, and the school authority has written formally to departments to forward names of the students with the best CGPA across the departments for an onward award of the scholarship. However, the best student must have a CGPA of more than 3.5, and any department that doesn’t have a student with this CGPA won’t benefit in this maiden edition.”
The “People’s First Scholarship Scheme” was launched to “inspire students and encourage a culture of excellence, and the target is to award at least 200 people scholarships before the end of the four-year tenure of the current administration. The program is expected to run annually throughout this tenure,” Dr. Inyali stated.
Despite the initial setback which stemmed from efforts by some vested interests to frustrate the smooth running of this program, the UNICROSS Alumni Association has raised the funds for this maiden edition and is only waiting for the final selection process to be completed before paying and announcing the names of the beneficiaries.
The UNICROSS Alumni Association is appealing to men and women of good conscience to support this initiative, and further details about this scheme and other programs that the national executive council is pursuing to support the university will be provided as they move forward.
