The Cross River State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), has commenced the distribution of instructional materials to schools as part of effort to strengthen the standard of teaching at the basic education level.
Speaking at the flag-off ceremony held at the SUBEB headquarters in Calabar, the Acting Executive Chairman, Mr. Etta Inyang Eyo, commended Governor Bassey Edet Otu for his effort in promoting the academic standard at the grassroot level.
Mr. Eyo described Governor Otu’s commitments to building capacity at the basic education level as a testament to his belief in “people’s first mantra” as well his desire to position the State among others.
The Acting Chairman of SUBEB urged Secretaries of Local Government Education Authority in the eighteen local government areas to judiciously utilize the materials distributed to them to achieve the purpose for which there were meant.
Mr. Etta Inyang Eyo expressed the hope that the instructional materials will go a long way in mitigating what used to be improvised means of teaching in schools and that it will also breathe a new lease of life in class interaction between teachers and pupils.
Responding, the Calabar Municipal Council Secretary of Education Authority, Mrs. Offiong Denis Effiong, pledged their support to the State Government in facilitating academic activities at the basic education level across the state.
Others who spoke, included the Director of Quality Assurance, Mrs. Regina Ogbudu, the Director Academic Services, Mrs. Caroline Nyong amongst others, expressed happiness with Governor Otu’s quick response to the plight of teachers, adding that the gesture will increase their performance.
